Migrants resident in the reporting country immigrated from 1997 and onwards.

Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents. Foreign-born with native-born adoptive parents are excluded.

Country background: Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents = their own country of birth. Descendants = mother's country of birth, or father's country of birth if mother's is unknown. Rest of the population = Reporting country i.e. one or both parents' country of birth is the reporting country.

Reason for residence permit: See valuenotes for individual reporting country.

Refugees: See valuenotes for individual reporting country.

Family-refugees: Granted residence permit as close family member reuniting, accompaning or forming a family with a refugee in the host country.

Family other: Granted residence permit as close family member reuniting, accompaning or forming a family with a person who is not a refugee in the host country.

Denmark

Reference data: 31 December previous year.

Reason for residence permit: The reason for residence permit among non-Nordic and non-EU28/EES migrants, immigrated 1997 or later, according to the last information registered in the registers of the national immigration authorities.

At present it is not possible to split residence permits for family reunification into 'Family reunification to refugees' and 'Family reunification to others'. Non-Nordic and non-EU28/EES migrants that has immigrated with 'Familiy reunification' as residence permit is therefore excluded from the statistics.

Norway

Reference date: First immigration in the period 1997-2017.
Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents and four foreign-born grandparents. Adopted foreign-born are excluded.

Reason for residence permit: The primary reason for the first immigration among non-Nordic and non-EU28/EES citizens, according to the information registered in the registers of the national immigration authorities and otherwise as it is possible to derive from various relevant register variables. Adopted foreign-born not included.

Sweden

Reference data: 31 December previous year.

Reason for residence permit: The reason for residence permit among non-Nordic and non-EU28/EES citizens, immigrated 1997 or later, accord-ing to the last information registered in the registers of the national im-migration authorities.
